Bicol International Airport now 72% Complete
The Bicol International Airport (BIA) is 72% complete.
According to DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, developments such as this is very important as the country starts recovering from the pandemic.
“It can’t be denied that the aviation sector has been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic,” he said. “That’s why it is important that we finish the airport at the soonest possible time, as this will absolutely give the economy a boost. I want this to finish within the year because we wanted our fellowmen to use this soon. As we ready for take-off, all systems should go.”
As of January 13, Package 2A is now 88.2 per cent finished, handled by the Sunwest Corporation and Development Corp and includes the airport’s landslide facilities such as the air traffic control building, the maintenance building, the administration building, and the crash fire rescue building.
Meanwhile, Package 2B is 49.5 per cent complete. This is being handled by EM Cuerpo Construction Company and includes the building of the taxiway, the passenger terminal building, the runway extension, and other site development works.
When completed, the airport can accommodate at least two million passengers every year. This will also boost air traffic in the region.
This is part of the “Build Build Build” program of the Duterte administration.
