Business Community Supports Call for Reopening of Mining Operations
In response to the statement of Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez calling for the reopening of mines and announcing the completion of the review of mining assets instituted by the government through the Privatization Management Office, the country’s largest business sector, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) expressed support for its revival.
According to PCCI President Benedicto Yujuico, the government should have a good plan in the reopening of the mining sector.
“COVID-19 has made over 4.5 million Filipinos unemployed,” he said. “The plan to revive the mining industry is very laudable essentially because of the sincere desire of our government to create and provide jobs especially those in the rural areas.”
