Construction starts on P8.8 billion CAVITEX C5 Link
Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) will begin today construction of two new segments of the CAVITEX C5 Link Expressway worth P8.8 billion.
MPTC-unit Cavitex Infrastructure Corp.(CIC), the concessionaire of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), and the Philippine Reclamation Authority have tapped the consortium of A.M. Oreta & Co. Inc. and China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. for the construction of Segment 2 and Segment 3A-2.
Segment 2, which has a project cost of P7 billion, is a 1.9-kilometer, 2x3 lane expressway that will run from R-1 Expressway to Sucat Interchange.
The P1.8-billion Segment 3A-2, on the other hand, is a 1.6-km, 2x3 lane expressway that will run from Merville to RSG Subdivision in Parañaque.
Right-of-way has been fully delivered for Segment 3A-2, while Segment 2 has more than 80 percent.
Both segments are eyed for completion by the second quarter of 2022.
CIC said completion of the two new segments is expected to reduce travel time to Makati and Taguig from Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Cavite by 30 minutes.
“These projects will decongest EDSA and Sales Road in Pasay City by about 50,000 vehicles per day, and connect major business districts in Taguig and Makati to Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Cavite,” Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said.
“Once operational, Segments 2 and 3A-2 of Cavitex C5 Link Expressway will help provide fast, safe and efficient movement of people and goods, and create at least 1,000 new jobs in construction, operations and maintenance,” CIC president Roberto Bontia said.
The CAVITEX C5 Link Expressway is a 7.70-km expressway from CAVITEX (R-1) to C5 (CP Garcia) Road traversing the cities of Paranaque, Pasay and Taguig and will complete the missing southern section of C5 Road.
The 2.15-km Segment 3A-1 from Merville to C5 Road was opened in July last year. Aside from Segment 2 and Segment 3A-2, CIC plans to start construction of the 2.01-km Segment 3B by the second quarter of next year which will complete the entire CAVITEX C5 Link Expressway.
