San Miguel gives a sneak peek into proposed Bulacan airport

A more spacious and state-of-the-art airport will soon rise in northern Luzon.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has revealed design studies for the New Manila International Airport (NMIA), a four-runway gateway it plans to build in Bulacan.

The planned international airport in Bulakan town can accommodate up to 100 million passengers yearly, and is expected to decongest air traffic at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.

SMC said the NMIA can expand to add two more runways should the need arise, while boarding gates are arranged at a semi-loop leading up to a circular terminal.

The passenger terminals will likewise feature sustainable and "energy-efficient" structures. The walls and portions of the ceiling are glass to allow natural lighting.

The Department of Transportation said it can award the ₱734-billion contract to SMC next week, while construction is set to start before the year ends. Completion is scheduled in four to six years.
