Issue 3

Welcome to Issue 3 2025 of your Philippine Resources Journal. But this is not just any regular issue of the country’s premier mining, construction, and resource industry magazine - this whopping 92-pager in your hands (or on your screen) marks our 15th anniversary publication and is our largest issue to date, ever since we put out Issue 1 for the Mining Philippines Conference in September 2010.

It is but fitting to look back at the last decade and a half and see how far the PH resources industry has advanced, and our longtime editor Jimbo Owen Gulle does just that with his retrospective starting on page 18. The other articles in these pages will also shed light on the progress made since then.

Our two other mainstays, lawyers Ronnie Penarroyo and Patricia Bunye, offer intriguing perspectives on the global and local mining industry with their commentaries. Ronnie explains and explores the new methods of searching for minerals and commodities on page 6, and Patricia makes the connection between STEM education and women in mining to bridge the jobs-skills match for these needs in the Philippines starting on page 14.

Our journalist, Marcelle Villegas, has her bevy of articles scattered across our pages, but we invite you to zoom in on our cover story featuring our longstanding partner, RDCL, as their senior specialist Patrick Manalansan surveys the country’s mining rebound through policy shifts, its economic Impact, and the role of Geotechnical Risk Management in the PH. Turn to page 48 for that in-depth article.

Finally, from all of us here at Philippine Resources Journal - we thank you from the depths of our hearts for your constant partnership and patronage. This magazine would not last 15 years without your valuable support and would exist for hopefully many more. God bless the Philippine resources industry!
