Hinatuan Mining Corp.'s Tagana-an Nickel Project (HMC-TNP) planted 1,100 native tree seedlings on a rehabilitated mined-out site as part of its World Environment Day 2026 observance, reinforcing its commitment to biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.
The tree-planting activity was conducted in partnership with validators from the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) and the Mining Forest Program (MFP).
The seedlings were planted across a 0.76-hectare mined-out area to help restore forest cover, rebuild wildlife habitats and support the company's mine rehabilitation efforts.
HMC said the use of indigenous tree species will help protect watersheds, maintain ecological balance, enrich biodiversity and create healthier ecosystems for surrounding communities.
The company added that the initiative demonstrates how responsible mining can be integrated with environmental stewardship through sustained rehabilitation and ecosystem restoration.
The activity formed part of this year's World Environment Day celebration, which carried the theme, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."
HMC said every tree planted contributes to carbon sequestration, land restoration and stronger ecosystem resilience, supporting its broader commitment to sustainable mining practices and long-term environmental protection.
