PMEA Membership Meeting Update – July 7, 2025

During the Philippine Mining and Exploration Association (PMEA) Monthly Member Meeting, the keynote speaker was Engr. Michael V. Cabalda. He is the Assistant Secretary for Mining Concerns and Concurrent MGB Director.

He gave a detailed report on key developments from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

PMEA President, Mr. Joey Nelson Ayson reported the Industry Updates & PMEA Matters.

In his report, he mentioned about the launch of the Sustainable Forest Land Management Agreement (SFLMA) on June 26, 2025, which opens 1.2 million hectares of forest land for sustainable investment in forestry plantations, agroforestry, pasture land, eco-tourism and renewable energy.

From the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Al Emil Berador, formerly chief geologist, was named Officer in Charge Regional Director of MGB 7, following the retirement of RD Armando Malicse—a move seen as ensuring steady leadership in the region.

Regarding the development of DAO 2025 22, the official implementing rules for the SFLMA, it was signed in June 2 and published on June 12, 2025. The draft Critical Minerals Policy was noted to be in its final review stage, with issuance via Executive Order expected soon.
