A delegation of 22 personnel from the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Quezon, led by Mayor Anabelle Binwag, visited the Runruno Gold Project on January 19 for a mine tour aimed at deepening understanding of the site’s operations and responsible mining practices.
The visit provided participants with first-hand exposure to the operations of FCF Minerals Corporation, the operator of the Runruno Gold Project, as well as the company’s community development initiatives and environmental rehabilitation and protection programmes. The group was also briefed on the project’s Final Mine Rehabilitation and Decommissioning Plan (FMRDP).
Located in Barangay Runruno in the municipality of Quezon, Nueva Vizcaya, the Runruno Gold Project is an open-pit gold mine that has been in commercial operation since 2016. The site includes a processing plant, waste rock facilities and a Residual Storage Impoundment (RSI) used for the safe storage of mine residues. The project plays a significant role in the local economy through employment, procurement and support for community development programmes.
During the tour, the delegation engaged with FCF’s technical personnel at key areas of the site, including the mine view deck, the RSI embankment area and the RSI Final Spillway view deck. Discussions focused on mine operations, environmental safeguards and rehabilitation measures being implemented throughout the life of the mine.
Officials said the visit helped strengthen their understanding of the importance of collaboration between the mining company and local government to ensure that mining activities continue to support local communities, effective governance and environmental protection.
At the conclusion of the tour, participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to visit the site and indicated interest in undertaking further learning visits ahead of the company’s planned end of operations.
