Silangan Mindanao Mining Co., Inc. (SMMCI) has marked a major step forward after its Five-Year Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) received official approval from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XIII. The deliberation was held at the MGB Region XIII Training Center.
Engr. Francis Glenn N. Suante, chief of the Mine Safety, Environment, and Social Development Division of MGB Region XIII, led the deliberation, which included active participation from SMMCI’s Community Relations team, Community Relations Manager Janrie Dudang, Corporate Community Relations Manager Nancy Baldoza, and company Community Organizers.
Adding to the achievement, the Annual Social Development and Management Program (ASDMP) for 2026 was also approved, giving the Community Relations team a double milestone. Both programs are aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring initiatives address the evolving needs of Silangan’s host communities.
The approval process followed the recently concluded SDMP Planning Workshops, attended by host community representatives. Their feedback helped shape programs that go beyond regulatory compliance to deliver long-term, meaningful impact.
A performance review was also conducted to assess the implementation of previous programs, confirming that initiatives were executed according to high standards of transparency, accountability, and social responsibility.
“This milestone is a shared achievement,” SMMCI said. “It strengthens partnerships, uplifts communities, and shows that responsible mining can drive inclusive growth and sustainable development.”
