THPAL signs 50 scholars under 2026 special scholarship program

Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation (THPAL) has signed contracts with 50 beneficiaries of its 2026 Special Scholarship Program following a competitive screening process, the company, based in Claver, Surigao del Norte, said.

The program is part of THPAL's Social Development and Management Program and supports education in mine technology, geosciences, and other fields related to industrial and community development.

The 50 scholars were selected from more than 100 applicants from across Surigao del Norte. They will pursue degrees in chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical engineering, as well as environmental science, helping to build a local talent pool for plant operations.

Applicants underwent intelligence and emotional intelligence tests administered by a third-party psychological testing center at Claver National High School, followed by panel interviews and background checks, including house-to-house validation visits.

Eric V. Macabenta, THPAL Community Relations Chief Officer, said the screening process was designed to identify students with strong academic potential and values aligned with the company's commitment to excellence, integrity, and community service.

He said the scholarship program is a long-term investment in developing a skilled workforce in local communities and expanding opportunities for students across the province.

Pastora Jennifer Torion, parent of one of the scholars, expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to her child.

She said the scholarship would help ease their family's financial burden and allow her child to pursue a preferred course. She added that she hopes THPAL's operations will continue so that more families in the community can benefit from similar assistance.

With the contracts signed, the 2026 scholars are set to begin their studies as they prepare for careers in engineering and environmental science.
