TMC, Coast Guard Strengthen Maritime Safety Partnership

Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) and the Philippine Coast Guard–Coast Guard District Northeastern Mindanao (PCG-CGDNEM) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on April 29, 2026, at the TMC Training and Assessment Center to boost maritime safety, coastal security, and emergency response in Claver and nearby communities.

The agreement formalizes collaboration between TMC and the PCG to support the operations of Coast Guard Sub-Station Claver, particularly maritime patrols, search and rescue, environmental protection, and other maritime activities within its area of responsibility.

The MOA was signed by TMC Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Engr. Artemio E. Valeroso and Commodore Dennis Rem C. Labay, PCG, Acting Commander of Coast Guard District Northeastern Mindanao. Witnesses were Lieutenant Junior Grade Roy Christopher R. Orillaneda, PCG, Station Commander of Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte, and TMC Security Manager Police Colonel Irene Pareja (Ret.).

Under the agreement, TMC authorized the Coast Guard to use its seven-meter floating asset to strengthen maritime operations in Claver and nearby coastal areas.

TMC will provide logistical support for joint operations, including fuel, provisions, maintenance, and vessel upkeep, while the PCG will operate and oversee the vessel through qualified personnel in line with maritime safety and operational protocols.

Valeroso welcomed the partnership and highlighted its practical benefits for coastal safety and emergency response.

“We are glad to work with the PCG in this effort. Through this partnership, we hope to improve safety at sea and support faster emergency response in our coastal communities,” Valeroso said.

Labay, meanwhile, said the agreement strengthens operational readiness and inter-agency coordination in coastal security and emergency response.

“Through the joint use of maritime assets and continued coordination, this partnership enhances the capability of PCG units to respond more quickly to emergencies, conduct maritime patrols, support search and rescue operations, and promote environmental protection initiatives. Most importantly, it strengthens the sense of security and preparedness among coastal communities whose livelihoods depend on safe and secure waters,” Labay said.

He added that the initiative underscores the value of sustained cooperation between government and private-sector partners in advancing maritime safety, resilience, and community protection.
