Collaborative Transparency: 90th Ph-EITI MSG Meeting and Mine Visit

The Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PH-EITI) held its 90th Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) meeting and Mine Visit in Cauayan City, Isabela, and Kasibu, Nueva Viscaya. from May 23-25, 2024, bringing together key stakeholders from government, industry, and civil society to discuss various topics in the implementation of PH-EITI activities and developments in the extractive sector.

The meeting is co-hosted by OceanaGold Philippines, Inc., to include a visit to their mine at Didipio in the province of Nueva Vizcaya and its local community, fostering a deeper engagement and transparency.

The PH-EITI, is a government-led, multi-stakeholder initiative implementing EITI, the global standard that promotes the open, accountable management, and good governance of oil, gas, and mineral resources.

The meeting was presided over by Undersecretary Bayani H. Agabin, Chairman and Focal Person of the PH-EITI which was participated by the representatives from the three constituencies of the MSG, including the National Secretariat. Engr. Romualdo D. Aguilos, Chief of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau’s Mineral Economics, Information, and Publication Division represented the DENR-MGB as an alternate MSG.

At the Mine site, the group was welcomed by Atty. Joan Adaci Cattiling, President and General Manager-Corporate and Legal Affairs of the Didipio Mine, her Staff, the Mayor of Kasibu, Nueva Viscaya, and the Didipio Baranggay Captain.

The three-day event includes a comprehensive tour of OceanaGold's mining operations and engagements with the local community in Kasibu. These interactions are designed to offer participants firsthand insights into the social and environmental impacts of mining activities.
