DMCI Mining Corporation reported record nickel ore production in 2025, driven by higher output from its Zambales operations and the start of initial mining at its Long Point project.
The emerging nickel producer said it produced 2.0 million wet metric tons of nickel ore during the year, a 33% increase from 1.5 million wet metric tons in 2024. Shipments rose 31% to 1.9 million wet metric tons, marking the company’s second-highest shipment level on record.
The production gains were supported by improved operating conditions in Zambales and the commissioning of initial operations at the Long Point mine, the company said.
DMCI Mining President Tulsi Das C. Reyes said the company is seeing stronger prospects following a difficult period for the nickel sector.
“We are encouraged by the improving fundamentals of the nickel industry after a challenging period,” Reyes said. “The combination of our record production, strong prices and the continued progress of our Long Point development gives us solid growth prospects, both for the company and for our host communities.”
Nickel prices also strengthened during the year. Average benchmark Philippine free-on-board prices for 1.5% grade laterite nickel ore rose 26% year over year to $45.7 per wet metric ton, from $36.3 in 2024.
The company highlighted progress in mine rehabilitation efforts led by its subsidiary Berong Nickel Corporation in Palawan. Guided by the Philippines’ first approved Final Mine Rehabilitation and Decommissioning Plan for a nickel mine, Berong has rehabilitated more than 174 hectares to date, exceeding its third-year targets. The rehabilitation program remains on track for completion in 2027, after which the site is scheduled to be turned over to the government.
Environmental and safety performance was also cited as a key focus. In November, Zambales Diversified Mining Corp., another DMCI Mining subsidiary, received its second Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award, recognizing its compliance with environmental standards and safety practices.
DMCI Mining is a wholly owned subsidiary of DMCI Holdings Inc. and engages in surface mining of nickel ore, which it ships primarily to China and other international markets. Its operating assets include Berong Nickel Corporation in Palawan, as well as Zambales Diversified Metals Corporation and Zambales Chromite Mining Company.
