DENR, Miss Philippines Earth mark Earth Day with ‘Geologist for a Day’ activity

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), in partnership with Miss Philippines Earth, marked Earth Day with the launch of an Eco-Explorer activity dubbed “Geologist for a Day” on April 22, 2026.

The initiative aimed to give environmental advocates and partners a deeper understanding of the role of geologists in studying Earth processes, managing natural resources, and supporting environmental protection and community development.

Participants included Miss Philippines Earth-Fire 2025 Kate Gatpandan and Miss Philippines Earth-Water 2025 Austhrie Sanchez, who took part in guided field activities simulating the day-to-day responsibilities of geologists.

Through the immersive experience, the participants gained insights into how geologists assess mineral resources, analyze geological formations, and contribute to science-based decision-making for sustainable development, the DENR said.

The Eco-Explorer program is part of the agency’s broader effort to showcase its core functions and raise awareness of the work carried out by geologists, foresters and wildlife protection officers.

The event was spearheaded by the DENR’s Strategic Communication and Initiatives Service and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office, in collaboration with OceanaGold Philippines Inc., as well as DENR and MGB Region 2.

The DENR said the initiative reinforces its commitment to public engagement and environmental education, in line with its “Tayo ang Kalikasan” advocacy.
