Who are the Lighthouse Club Manila?

By: Philippine Resources November 06, 2019

Lighthouse Club is an international construction industry charity first founded in the UK in 1956. The club has many branches throughout the UK and the Netherlands, in South East Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. Clubs hold regular social and fundraising events where members and their guests can network and enjoy social activities while also supporting their clubs’ charity and industry support activities.

Lighthouse Club Manila was founded in 1996 and registered as an NGO in 1997 with a volunteer Board of Trustees, and the principal aims of fostering good fellowship, camaraderie and cooperation amongst members, and to raise funds to provide educational support to disadvantaged scholars selected from families working within the local construction industry. By supporting students, we support their families, build their communities, and provide professional and skilled graduates. Eligible students study courses ranging from grade school through to university and vocational training. Special construction projects are undertaken with membership support from time to time.

For the 2019-2020 school year we have 46 scholarship places, with students ranging from grade school level and through to University studying in courses including Business Administration, Architecture, and Engineering. To date we have graduated 21 students in Engineering, Architecture, Education, Criminology and Computer Science.

Lighthouse Club Manila activities are supported by the Hong Kong Lighthouse Club Charities; the James Battersby Education Trust and the Asia Pacific Region Trust. All funds raised in Philippines are matched 90% by these two trusts for qualified scholars, magnifying the impact of locally raised funds and increasing the number of scholars we can support.
